The Heart of Kansas

Hoisington, Kansas, the “Gateway to Cheyenne Bottoms”, combines a rich history as a railroad

town, oil town, and farming community with today’s mix of agricultural production and manufacturing.

Hoisington is also home twice a year to the endangered Whooping Cranes as they migrate.

The Whooping Cranes along with thousands of other bird species spend time at the Cheyenne

Bottoms wetlands area whose borders come almost to the edge of Hoisington.

Hoisington is also the northern entrance to the Wetlands & Wildlife National Scenic Byway. The

77-mile byway connects two of the world’s most significant natural wetlands-Cheyenne Bottoms and

Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. More than 60,000 acres of wetlands host millions of migrating birds

each year.

Near the center of the continental United States, Hoisington has access to interstate highways in

both directions. Hoisington has a state of the art hospital and one of the finest school systems in the

state. Hoisington is in the center of a low-cost rural grown labor pool with the mid-west work ethic.

Two and four year colleges all within an hour’s drive surround Hoisington.

Hoisington has a history of surviving and thriving. Our history is full of those who braved the prairie to

find the American Dream... Through dust storms, economic tragedies and tornados, the city has prospered thanks to its dedicated townfolk and a common vision of the future of Hoisington.

In essence Hoisington is the small community that has all a person needs--except the hustle and bustle of the big city. We are “the Crossroads of Kansas”, the town to which all roads lead, and we’re proud of all that we are. So whether you are looking for a great place to live, work or play; or just stopping by Cheyenne Bottoms to look at Whooping Cranes and other birds, Hoisington has it.
